There has been a large amount of press recently about the degradation of groundwater and soil quality at Oakey due to the presence of PFOS and PFOA. These compounds (perfluorooctane sulphonate and perfluorooctanoic acid) are used in firefighting foams and many household cleaning products. As an emerging contaminant, regulatory standards are still being developed. It is understood that the Department of Defence is actively working with industry professionals to determine actual impacts to communities from these compounds. Refer to the attached links for further information.
